01 Do Not Look Only for Good Weather

Summer may seem tempting in southern Italy, but Naples does not gain clarity in extreme heat. The city is already intense; in July and August that intensity becomes physical: the asphalt radiates, the port presses in and the slopes tire you. April, May, September and October bring back the balance.

02 Light Matters as Much as Temperature

In Naples the difference between enduring and enjoying often comes down to light. May's is long and open; October's is golden and low. Under that light, the seafront of Via Caracciolo, Mergellina and Posillipo turns from a chore into a reason: the sea is near, facades soften and the walk makes sense.

03 Spring and Autumn Are Street Seasons

April, May, September and October let Naples happen outdoors without exhausting you. That is when walking the old centre, climbing to a viewpoint or crossing a market can be done with patience. From above — Castel Sant'Elmo, for instance — the whole city can be read: port, neighbourhoods and volcano in a single look that high summer makes hard to hold.

04 Verdict

If you want comfort, choose April or October: kind weather, lively streets and the light on your side. If you do not mind a little more bustle, May and September give you the city at full rhythm, before and after the August lull. Avoid July and August if you can: Naples does not need heat to be intense.
